Petition to Reprint Dune Hardcovers

We receive letters from fans, often several times a week, wanting to know why they can't buy all of Frank Herbert's original DUNE series novels in hardcover editions. These books are classics, and die-hard readers want to have a matched, durable set. However, other than occasional book club editions, Frank Herbert's five DUNE sequels have not been available since their original publication.

GOD-EMPEROR OF DUNE was the first hardcover book I ever bought, back when I was a freshman in college, and I subsequently bought hardcovers of HERETICS and CHAPTERHOUSE as soon as they were released. Those copies are somewhat battered now, but I still have them.

The saddest part is that not even libraries can buy hardcover editions for their shelves. Many libraries do not put paperbacks in the main stacks, and thus DUNE MESSIAH, CHILDREN OF DUNE, and the others are not even shelved in the main section of a library.

Berkley Books controls the rights to reprint the books in hardcover. The original novel DUNE is still for sale in a new edition, but Brian and I have been trying to convince Berkley to reissue the others since before HOUSE ATREIDES was released seven years ago. Unfortunately, we have not generated enough interest.

Now it's your turn to help. We know that a large number of DUNE fans are interested in obtaining a hardcover set. Please give us your support on the petition we have just placed on the dunenovels home page. Pass the word around on all the other Dune fan sites so that we can generate a lot of names. Maybe then we'll convince Berkley to reprint the books.

Petition to Berkley Books

Frank Herbert's five sequels to his classic novel DUNE -- DUNE MESSIAH, CHILDREN OF DUNE, GOD-EMPEROR OF DUNE, HERETICS OF DUNE, and CHAPTERHOUSE DUNE -- all remain extremely popular worldwide. However, for many years, other than the first novel, these books have been available only in paperback. Fans have not been able to buy new hardcovers of the series for decades; even libraries cannot obtain hardcovers of these enduring works for their shelves.

With the continuing popularity of the DUNE series, and the large new audience introduced to Frank Herbert's work by the bestselling DUNE prequels by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, more readers than ever want to have a hardcover set of the original Chronicles. We the undersigned urge you to reissue these books in hardcover.
