The Letters of Frank Herbert and Damon Knight

Chris Haviland of LegendMaker Scriptoria will be publishing an interesting book soon, entitled The Synopsis Treasury. It will include the book proposal and story synopsis that Kevin J. Anderson and I put together in 1998 when we decided to write Dune: House Atreides and two other prequels to Dune. The Treasury will also include a fascinating collection of letters that Frank Herbert and Damon Knight exchanged in the 1960s, when Frank Herbert was beginning to write Destination: Void. (As many fans know, that popular novel was followed by three excellent sequels, which Dad wrote with Bill Ransom -- The Jesus Incident, The Lazarus Effect, and The Ascension Factor.)

I have written a 1700-word introduction for the Frank Herbert section of The Synopsis Treasury, laying out the context of the letters, and providing new information and a more detailed analysis of Destination: Void than I was able to provide in Dreamer of Dune, my biography of Frank Herbert.

The book should be published sometime next year, and we'll post information about it here when it becomes available.
