British "Great Reads"DUNE has been selected by publisher Hodder & Stoughton to be included in their "Great Reads" program. The idea of Great Reads was to take a number of the best books on Hodder's backlist and present them afresh to a new generation of readers, giving the books some attention with new jackets, blurbs, and a series look. The books published this year are quite different from each other but all fantastic reads. The hope is that if readers try one Great Read, they will look out for the others. This will encourage people to select books that they wouldn't normally buy, and thus we hope DUNE gets a new set of readers who wouldn't choose a book from the science fiction section. But every DUNE fan knows that the classic novel transcends genres and gets many devoted fans who don't consider themselves SF afficionados. According to Hodder, the plan has proved to be a success, and the first set of titles have already shown an upsurge in sales. The reissue of DUNE came out in the UK on June 5, with a striking new cover. -- KJA
