The Martian War
|
The Martian WarA short entry today. I'm traveling again, giving a speech and a book signing tonight. Editing and rewriting in spare moments. I have edited and expanded one chapter, written a new chapter, and did a major revision to change the point of view in another one. I've also spoken at length with Brian on the phone twice today, both of us brainstorming and revising to make sure we're on the same track. Though the remaining work at times seems overwhelming, we can both feel the energy and enthusiasm ricocheting back and forth. I'm currently halfway through SANDWORMS, and I'm already anxious for my next crack at HUNTERS. For anyone who is interested, I will be interviewed on the History Channel on Monday night, November 21, at about 8 PM (check your local listings). Last March I published a novel, THE MARTIAN WAR, under the pen name "Gabriel Mesta." It's a fictional story about young HG Wells and his professor TH Huxley going to Mars to prevent the Martians from launching the War of the Worlds. It's a very enjoyable mix of history and fantasy, including many of my favorite characters from Wells (Dr. Moreau, the Invisible Man, the First Men in the Moon, etc.). I researched it for two years before writing the novel. The History Channel is doing a special on HG Wells and, because the producer is a fan of THE MARTIAN WAR, they flew me to their LA studios to film the special. Now, back to editing for a few minutes before I head off to the book signing. --KJA
