Frank Herbert -- Hall of Famer!Frank Herbert has been selected for inclusion in the Science Fiction Hall of Fame, which is part of the Science Fiction Museum in Seattle. Brian and I, as well as the whole Herbert family, are extremely pleased. Several days ago, Brian Herbert and Bill Ransom were present when the induction committee made their official announcement. The actual Hall of Fame ceremony and dinner will take place in June at the Science Fiction Museum, just under the famous Space Needle. Since Frank Herbert is the author of the best-selling (and generally best loved) science fiction novel of all time, he certainly belongs in the Hall of Fame. Even without the spectacular DUNE series, Frank wrote many masterpieces of the genre, including HELLSTROM'S HIVE, THE WHITE PLAGUE, THE GREEN BRAIN, THE SANTAROGA BARRIER, THE DRAGON IN THE SEA. Bill Ransom, as most of you know, cowrote THE JESUS INCIDENT, THE LAZARUS EFFECT, and THE ASCENSION FACTOR with Frank Herbert, and he contributed a fine introduction to THE ROAD TO DUNE, and he is an excellent poet and science fiction author in his own right. Bill showed up at the standing-room-only crowd at the University Bookstore in Seattle for the very first signing Brian and I did for HOUSE ATREIDES, cheering us on. He has agreed to write up his impressions of the Hall of Fame announcement, which we will post here as a blog entry. Maybe I can even convince Brian to write something! * * * * * The Tip Jar: Several friends and fans have suggested that we add a Tip Jar to the blog, a common practice on many other websites. We designed dunenovels.com to disseminate news about the DUNE universe, Frank Herbert, our new prequels, films and awards, and press releases such as the one listed above. Here, DUNE fans have been treated to extremely early sneak previews of cover art, dust jacket text, and breaking news; in coming months, we will be posting pre-release chapters from HUNTERS OF DUNE, as well as continued updates and articles. However, web hosting, site design, and maintenance add up to not-inconsiderable expenses, which we pay out of pocket. If you consider the information posted in this blog and on the website to be useful and entertaining, please feel free to contribute to help defray our expenses. You are under no obligation, but we certainly appreciate it. --KJA
