Last Days of Krypton Paperback ReleasedI'm writing this in a brief break between appearances at DragonCon. This gathering is exhausting but also exhilarating. I've already done six panels, a reading for PAUL OF DUNE, two autographings (where people kept trying to sneak off with my one pre-release copy of PAUL), and three interviews, as well as a separate appearance at the Decatur Book Festival. On Friday night Rebecca and I went out to dinner with our editorial assistant at Tor and another Tor editor, and fellow author Brandon Sanderson (a well-respected fantasy writer and also the man who is completing the final volume in Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, left unfinished at the time of Jordan's recent death). This is a place for us to meet many friends and colleagues; Friday we had lunch with bestselling paranormal fiction author Sherrilyn Kenyon; today we had lunch with Mike Resnick and his wife Carol. We also relaxed and talked with Anne and Todd McCaffrey, Harry Turtledove, Peter David, Laurell K. Hamilton, and Mike Stackpole. In the airport on the way to Atlanta, as well as at many of the dealers' booths and in newsracks around the area, the paperback edition of THE LAST DAYS OF KRYPTON has arrived. The amazing 3-D lenticular cover really stands out and catches your eye as you walk past. According to my publisher, this effect has never before been done on a mass-market novel, and it really is striking. Even if you don't plan to buy the book, stop by a bookstore and take a look. -- KJA
